A Cycle ride from Land's End to John o'Groats
John Hopkins and Gordon Leadbeater

A lifetime ambition of countless cyclists is to ride End to End, Land's End to John o'Groats. This is John Hopkins account of his fund raising journey illustrated by his friend and photographer, Gordon Leadbeater.

Berlie Doherty, an author of international fame, quotes in the foreword,..."John’s delight in the glorious British countryside, his fascination with the idiosyncratic, the history of place names, the siting of milestones; his enthusiasm for architecture, industrial history, good food and whisky, his squirreling of anecdotes, all make for a book that is as interesting and pleasurable as the journey itself…”

The book contains a picture on almost every page thereby depicting the stunning countryside through which John rode.  It is now in eighteen countries world wide and is available by e-mailing rayhop@tiscali.co.uk or RGL@gordonleadbeater.co.uk

A4, 112 pages, over 170 photographs. Price £16 + £2.50 for postage and packaging in the UK, overseas rates available on request.

Arrived at the tip of Ardnamurchan at 4.50pm. The ride has been a memorable experience in all senses of the word. By strange coincidence I completed the Land's End - John o'Groats ride on the same day four years ago. As with all great rides this one had a kick in the tail. The Ardnamurchan peninsula, which is spectacularly beautiful has many switchback hills - some long and some very steep. My faithful Falcon Cotswold (FC) complete with its 21 gears took them all in its stride. For this I thank Andy, Matt and Steve at Langsett Cycles in Sheffield who put a new gear block on FC a few weeks ago. The bottom gear came into play quite a bit. A few thank you's are due. To Rachel for providing the backup service yet again, To Mike Cheadle for updating the website each day, to friends sending me text messages of encouragement and sponsorship. Winners of the distance and time estimate will be notified. Map

Trivia of the day
